THE RHYTHM OF THE MURGA PORTEÑA IN THE ETERNAL CITY: ROMAN MURGA ORARGENTINIAN MURGA? ; RITMO DE MURGA PORTEÑA EN LA CIUDAD ETERNA:¿MURGA ROMANA O MURGA ARGENTINA?

Abstract

International audience ; The murga is the typical expression of the Argentinian carnival: it is a combination of dance,percussion and vocals, which expresses both a form of street art and a form of social criticism. The first"Argentinian" murga in Rome, called Sin Permiso, was organised in 2002. It was created by Argentiniancitizens living in Rome, who met up in the Centro Sociale Occupato Autogestito, a centre of alternativeculture in Italy. Over time, the Sin Permiso murga split up, giving birth to different murgas in the city.These were mostly Italians and a few Argentinians and gained a central place within the Roman counter-culture scene and the mobilizations against neoliberalism. Today, this phenomenon is expanding in otherItalian regions. In this article an explanation will be given of how, thanks to the strong Italian participa-tion and their political and cultural implications, they are starting to be called "Roman murgas". At thesame time they are becoming a reality in Rome, as both an artistic and a social form of expression. ; La murga es la expresión típica del carnaval argentino: es una combinación de danza, músicade percusión y cantos, que expresa a la vez una forma de arte callejero y un modo de crítica social. En elaño 2002, en Roma, aparece la primera murga «argentina», llamada Sin Permiso. Esta se crea con argen-tinos que viven en Roma y se reúnen en uno de los Centri Sociali Occupati Autogestiti (CSOA), polosde la cultura alternativa en Italia. Con el tiempo, la murga Sin Permiso se desintegra, dando lugar a laformación de diferentes murgas en la ciudad de Roma. Estas tienen un bajo componente argentino y unfuerte componente italiano y comienzan a hacerse un lugar en el ámbito contra-cultural romano y en lasmovilizaciones contra el neo-liberalismo. Hoy el fenómeno se extiende a otras regiones italianas.
