DIGITAL TWINS (Digital Twins in the transition to Industry 4.0) is a project funded by the Valencian Institute for Business Competitiveness (IVACE) and the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER). The general objective of the project is to advance in the definition, modeling and construction of Digital Twins in the framework of Industry 4.0, and demonstrate the new dimension of tools and services that can be built on them to improve their transferability and application in the Valencian Community industry. DIGITAL TWINS 2 (Digital Twins in the transition to Industry 4.0) is a research project developed by ITI (Instituto Tecnológico de Informática), funded by the Valencian Institute for Business Competitiveness (IVACE) and the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER). The general objective of the project is to advance in the definition, modeling and construction of Digital Twins in the framework of Industry 4.0, and demonstrate the new dimension of tools and services that can be built on them to improve their transferability and application in the Valencian Community industry. To reach this objective, new technologies will be developed to overcome the main technological barriers: the hyper-digitisation in plant, and the massive data manipulation. The following document shows the progress achieved in the definition of the "CPS deploy & forget" architecture as a digitalization platform. The main objectives have been focused on improving the robustness and security of communication systems, using a newly advertising mechanism and different security levels, from physical security to different encryption mechanisms. Biodiversity is a multidimensional concept that can be understood and measured in many different ways. However, the next generation of digital technologies for biodiversity monitoring currently being funded and developed fail to engage its multidimensional and relational aspects. Based on empirical data from interviews, a conference visit, online meetings, webinars, and project reports, this study articulates four digital logics that structure how biodiversity becomes monitored and understood within recent technological developments. The four digital logics illustrate how intensified practices of capturing, connecting, simulating, and computing produce particular techno-scientific formats for creating biodiversity knowledge. While ongoing projects advance technological development in areas of automation, prediction, and the creation of large-scale species databases, their developmental processes structurally limit the future of biodiversity technology. To better address the complex challenges of the global biodiversity crisis, it is crucial to develop digital technologies and practices that can engage with a wider range of perspectives and understandings of relational and multidimensional approaches to biodiversity.

With the increasing concern on climate change, the world is focusing on achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The SDGs are the set of goals that influence every aspect of life. In efforts to achieve the SDGs, the European Union (EU) Green Deal is a roadmap to transform the EU economy by turning the issues into opportunities. The built environment is an important sector that can expedite the process of achieving the SDGs and have the potential to impact other industries as well. The adoption of the green building rating system globally has proved to be a paradigm shift in the construction industry. The demand for green buildings is increasing and with it, the associated industries are also adapting to meet the demands of the green buildings. Typically, standards for evaluating building sustainability have been structured to evaluation categories, each of which includes many criteria and indicators for each criterion. The objective of this research is to develop the Green Digital Twin framework to be executed on all kinds of built environment domains. The aims are to take advantage of the BIM data, IoT, and digital means to change the static checklist of sustainability into dynamic indicators (Energy, air, material, etc), and performance verification in the virtual reality environment by developing Green Digital Twin. The data from the BIM has been analyzed in virtual reality to conduct the credit compliance of LEED credits from the material and resources category. The furniture element's EPDs and recycled content of the building element were verified in the virtual reality. The research proposed a comprehensive framework for the sustainability assessment in which there are several digital twin models for each KPI (key performance indicator). This work presents a digital twin framework for structural engineering. The digital twin is conceptualised and mathematically idealised within the context of structural integrity, and includes the main attributes to behave as a functional digital twin, namely simulation, learning, and management. The manuscript makes special emphasis on the autonomous interactions between the physical and digital counterparts along with on the workflow modelling of the digital twin, which are both missing aspects in the majority of use cases found in the literature, specially within the civil and structural engineering domain. The proposed framework is demonstrated in a proof of concept using a laboratory scale test structure monitored using internet-of-things-based sensors and actuators. The results reveal that the virtual counterpart can respond in real-time with self-adaptability in liaison to the performance of the physical counterpart. Ein hilfreiches Werkzeug ist der digitale Zwilling, der jedoch selten eingesetzt wird. Dieser Beitrag stellt einen Ansatz für die Produktionsplanung durch ein effizientes Erstellen eines digitalen Zwillings vor.

It determines the competitiveness of the production process, which is why planning should be as comprehensive, precise and efficient as possible. A helpful tool is the digital twin, but it is rarely used. This paper presents an approach for production planning by efficiently creating a digital twin.

Additive Fertigungsverfahren ermöglichen die Herstellung von sowohl gleichen als auch unterschiedlichen Komponenten in einem Bauvorgang. Um insbesondere für die additive Serienfertigung eine gleichbleibende Bauteilqualität zu gewährleisten, kann der Einsatz eines digitalen Zwillings sinnvoll sein. Dieser stellt hohe Anforderungen an die Datenbasis in Bezug auf Strukturierung, Rechenleistung und Datensicherheit und muss auf die relevanten Funktionen des Einsatzbereichs zugeschnitten sein.

Additive manufacturing enables the production of both several identical and different components in a single printing process. To ensure consistent component quality, especially for additive series production, the application of a digital twin can be useful. This places high demands on the data basis in terms of structuring, computing power and data security and must be tailored to the relevant functions of the respective application.

AbstractWith the expansion of digital transformation based on new technologies, the digital twin bureaucracy (DTB) emerges as a distinct type of 21st-century bureaucracy. The digital twin bureaucracy is defined as a digital replica of the bureaucracy in the physical world. Although the digital twin is formed based on new information and communication technology and physical bureaucracy data, it will control the physical bureaucracy through autonomous decision-making on matters of public affairs. Feedback from the physical world serve as input and update to the digital twin in this cyclical course of interactions. This study explores the technological figures and benefits of the digital twin bureaucracy based on a case analysis of the Sejong City Digital Twin Project in South Korea. It also compares the characteristics of the DTB and those of Max Weber's "ideal-type" bureaucracy. Based on this theoretical and empirical analysis, the paper presents the challenges and concerns of building the DTB.

Der digitale Zwilling als Modell gewinnt sowohl für die Entwicklung neuer Maschinengenerationen als auch für Simulationen parallel zum Betrieb stark an Bedeutung. Zur Erstellung entsprechender Modelle sind moderne flexible Mehrkörpersimulationsprogramme besonders geeignet. Im Rahmen dieses Beitrags wird die Simulationsumgebung MORe präsentiert, die sich unter anderem durch ihre Benutzerfreundlichkeit und ihre Recheneffizienz auszeichnet. Zudem ist die Berücksichtigung von Effekten möglich, die bisher im industriellen Umfeld kaum betrachtet wurden, wie beispielsweise Dämpfung.
 
The digital twin is becoming increasingly important for the development of new machine generations and for process parallel simulations. Modern flexible multi-body simulation programs are particularly suitable for creating the relevant models. In this paper, the simulation environment MORe is presented, which is characterized by its user-friendliness and its computational efficiency. Furthermore, it is possible to study effects such as damping, which have hardly been considered in industrial environments so far.
