As the number of deaths increased, the economy of several countries was ripped, regional economic relationships were falling apart and businesses collapsed. The protests affected the politics, security, safety and economy of many countries. The new governments made new regulations which were a challenge for businesses and an opportunity for others to operate. The aim of this study is to investigate the crisis management practices of one Egyptian company and two Tunisian companies during the Arab spring. This investigation has been done by interviewing the three managers of the three companies that were responsible for the practices that were taken in order to face the crises that had an influence on two of the companies and was the reason for closing the third company. In addition to that, the article discusses the Arab spring, the Egyptian pound crisis, the Tunisian dinar crisis and the crisis management literature which might be useful for decision making. Since there have been a number of empirical studies on crisis management recently, the present study aims to contribute to the related literature by using a qualitative methodology, including in-depth interviews with managers. The analysis indicated that crisis management is very vital for a company. In addition, it proved that as much as it is essential and necessary to prepare a plan to adjust to a crisis situation, flexibility is equally important in adjusting to the different circumstances which a company might face. ; Arap baharı devrimleri, Orta Doğu şirketlerini pek çok yönden radikal bir şekilde değiştirdi. Ölümlerin sayısı arttıkça, birçok ülkenin ekonomisi dağıldı, bölgesel ekonomik ilişkiler dağıldı ve işletmeler çöktü. Protestolar birçok ülkenin siyaset, güvence, güvenlik ve ekonomisini etkiledi. Abstract Middle Eastern geopolitics are dynamic and complex. Ideological and religious matters interplay with domestic and international structures, generating several types of relations. This article aims to analyse the rivalry between Saudi Arabia and Iran, two powerhouses that compete for leadership in the Gulf. The objective is to understand this competition through the lens of Role Theory, focusing on the national role conceptions that both countries project outwards. This theoretical framework presupposes that Iran and Saudi Arabia project self-made images that represent cognitive constructions of what policymakers believe their respective nations stand for. As an example, Iran projects a role of bastion of revolutions, which is firmly set against Saudi Arabia's anti-instability role. Regional instability periods, such as civil unrests, provide useful study cases for investigating the phenomenon of rivalry. Therefore, this article focuses on the Iranian and Saudi reactions to the events related to the so-called Arab Spring in Bahrain and Yemen, detecting when the rivalry is (somehow) present in their international behaviours. In conclusion, the article adds to a better understanding of Tehran's and Riyadh's ideological projection, and of how much of the region's politics are constrained by the rivalry status.

Este artículo analiza el recorrido de las conexiones entre el islam y los procesos democratizadores que se aglutinaron en tono a la "primavera árabe", originados por las multitudes en las calles. Este proceso, aún inconcluso, vislumbra un final menos feliz de lo esperado en el cual juega un rol definitorio la religión coránica, enemiga de la democracia. Frente a ello, el autor propone, en primer lugar, los rasgos que definen la democracia para luego relacionarlos con el núcleo de la tradición coránica y, finalmente, establecer cómo los movimientos religiosos han obrado en relación a los principios democráticos. ; This article analyses the extend of the connections between islam and the democratization processes that came together with the "arab spring", originated by the crowds on the streets. This process, even, envisages a less happy ending than what was expected, in which Coran's religion plays a definitive role, enemy of democracy. In face of this, the author proposes, firstly, the features that define democracy to then relate them with the nucleus of Coran's tradition and, finally, establishes how religious movements have acted in relation to democratic principles.

Despite progress in economic and social development in the 2000s, there was an increasing dissatisfaction with life among the population of many developing Arab countries. At the end of the decade, these countries ranked among the least happy economies in the world—a situation that fits the so-called "unhappy development" paradox. The paradox is defined as declining levels of happiness at a time of moderate-to-rapid economic development. This paper empirically tests the strength of association of a range of objective and subjective factors with life evaluation in the Middle East and North Africa region in the years immediately preceding the Arab Spring uprisings (2009–10). The findings suggest a significant, negative association between life satisfaction levels in the region during this period and each of the main perceived reasons for the 2011 uprisings—dissatisfaction with the standard of living, poor labor market conditions, and corruption.

In world political history, 2011 will be remembered as the year when the leader of the Al Qaida (AQ) terrorist movement was killed and of the so called "Arab Spring", when mass demonstrations in some Arab countries fundamentally challenged the way these countries have been ruled for the past few decades.
