Bio-Technological Developments and the Law
In: International social science journal: ISSJ, Band 42, S. 465-473
Abstract
An overview of recent Swedish developments in the field of biotechnological human reproduction. In 1981 the Swedish government formed a committee comprising legal, medical, psychological, & ethical experts to investigate the need for regulation of artificial insemination. Problems related to recordkeeping, pricing, legal aspects of paternity determination, & psychological development of children were uncovered. The committee's findings are also reported for in-vitro fertilization & surrogacy, & current Swedish laws are compared to those of Norway, the UK, & Australia. The ramifications of fetal diagnostics for terminating pregnancy in cases of a damaged fetus are considered, along with the implications of genetic manipulations & gene splicing. 2 Photographs, 18 References.
