Abstract
Since the late 1970s, in an attempt to modernise and develop their economy, the Chinese have pursued an 'open door' policy by which links have been encouraged, particularly in trade and investment with the non-Communist world. This has stimulated China's relations with the EEC. Although the EEC-China relationship clearly has a political dimension, the Community's interest is much more economic. China could eventually become an important trading partner. It is the economic aspects of the Sino-Community connection which are discussed. (AM)
