Abstract

In 1906, entrepreneurs José Campomar and Joseph Salvo inaugurated the textile industry in the present city of Juan Lacaze. With the passing of the decades it would become one of the largest industries in the sector in Latin America. But in 1993, the huge industry closed its doors, leaving a dramatic situation for the more than the thousand employees engaged in their facilities. The following year, the textile reopened under the leadership of the state and under the name Agolan, occupying less than half of the workers Campomar had at the time of closing. In late 2013, after several years of loss-making years, the national government decided to close down the activities of the industry. But a hundred workers who wanted to get on with the task, under the slogan "ser textiles siempre" formed a cooperative that developed countless efforts to recover the centenary industrial space, where they had spent most of their lives along with their predecessors. That claim was crystallized in 2014, after an arduous process of political negotiations
