Abstract

The economic transformation taking place in Eastern Europe and Asia is in particular a challenge for Japan and Germany. As the immediate neighbours, they are both, positively and negatively, affected by the economic and social transformation of these regions. At the same time, since they are strong economic powers, they have the necessary potential to influence developments there so that Eastern Europe and Asia progress to everyone's advantage. This volume looks into a wide range of possible supportive measures as far as capital, labour and regulatory systems are concerned. Specific economic and historic features of Japan and Germany as well as their strength, which are at present troubled by the current weakness of the American dollar and by the costs of reunification, are being taken into account
