Abstract
The author reports the findings of a survey of the political attitudes of 548 mainland Chinese students and scholars at 22 U.S. universities between March and September 1990. It is found that only 1.8 per cent of the respondents claimed communism as their political philosophy. The overwhelming majority claimed to be either social democrats or liberal democrats. The majority of the respondents were rather pessimistic about democracy's prospects in China. (DÜI-Sen)
