The principal administrative behavior serves as a motivator whose effectiveness in school business requires focus and commitment. Actualizing the organization goal often poses severe challenge toadministrators. This paper is therefore designed to examine the various challenges facing principals' administrative behavior in Nigerian secondary schools. The paper focuses on concept of principal administrative behavior, school principals' tasks in the realization of educational aims, factors hindering principals' administrative behavior in school administration, relevance of principals' administrative behavior in school administration. Based on this, it was recommended that conferences, seminars and workshops and other staff development programs should be sponsored by the government to serve as motivational strategies for secondary school principals. Also, persistent change in educational policies should be guided against by the government to ensure consistency in educational system.Government should endeavor to provide to schools the educational resources which will improve principals' administrative behavior effectively and efficiently.
This study investigated the communication skills needed by provosts for effective management of Colleges of Education in Kwara State. The study was a descriptive survey study. It was guided by two research questions and two null hypotheses. The population of the study comprised the academic staff and NCE students in the three Colleges of Education owned by Kwara State Government. In all, there are 426 academic staff and 7,500 NCE students in the three colleges. The samples consisted of 100 academic staff and 250 NCE students drawn proportionately from the three colleges. An instrument constructed by the researchers, titled: Provosts' Communication Skills for Effective Management Questionnaire (PCSEMQ) was used for data collection. Percentage, Mean, Standard Deviation and t-test statistics were used to analyse the data collected. The result of data analysis revealed the problems caused by poor usage of communication skills to include the decrease in the standard of Nigeria Certificate in Education; lack of sustainability of College's good track record; lack of adequate control of staff and students; neglect of staff welfare and non-provision of grant for research and publications; poor supervision and monitoring of college's activities; disruption of college environment making it difficult for lecturers to achieve their goals maximally; etc. Based on the findings, some recommendations were made which include the use of clear and concise language by provosts, constant use of face-to-face communication and the provosts being active listeners.
Workplace behaviour refers to behaviour that organization requires or demands of employees at all times which will encourage efficient running of the organization and subsequently lead to the attainment of the goals. Drawing from empirical studies and review of theories, this study examined the relationship between workplace behaviour and staff job performance in private secondary schools in Ilorin West local government, Kwara state, Nigeria. Specifically, the study assessed: (i) the relationship between punctuality and staff job performance in private secondary schools in Ilorin West local government, Kwara state, Nigeria; (ii) the relationship between teamwork and staff job performance in private secondary schools in Ilorin West local government, Kwara state, Nigeria and (iii) the relationship between discipline and staff job performance in private secondary schools in Ilorin West local government, Kwara state, Nigeria. The study was a descriptive research of correlation type, random sampling technique was used to select 50 private secondary schools in Ilorin West local government. Random sampling technique was used to select 10 staff per school. Purposive sampling technique was used to select administrative officers (Proprietors, Principals, Vice-Principals and Bursars). Questionnaire was used to collect data for the study, the instruments were validated by the experts and also tested for reliability. The reliability coefficients realized for WPQ and SJPQ were 0.82 and 0.76, respectively. The main and operational hypotheses were tested using Pearson product-moment correlation statistics respectively at 0.05 level of significance. The results revealed that there was a significant relationship between workplace behaviour and staff job performance (p˃0.05). The study concluded that workplace behaviour plays a significant role in enhancing staff job performance which would consequently facilitate the realization of educational goals of secondary schools in Ilorin-West local government, Kwara state, Nigeria. Based on the findings and conclusion, the study recommended that education stakeholders, including state government, should intensify their efforts to ensure that staff maintain workplace behaviour through strict implementation of staff code of conduct, the staff should be sensitized on the importance and consequences of workplace behaviour and ensure that appropriate sanctions are carried out on the defaulters. As captured in the National Policy of Education that private investors are needed to contribute to the development of the society, this study examined the contribution of private universities to the development of Kwara State, Nigeria with evidence from Al-Hikmah University. The research design adopted for the study was qualitative type. Both purposive and convenience sampling techniques were employed to select four participants within Al-Hikmah University that participated in the study. Protocol titled "Interview Protocol on Contribution of Private Universities (IPCPU)'' was used to elicit relevant information. Findings revealed that the university contributes immensely to the development of Kwara State. The contribution includes enrolment of students seeking for university education, employment generation, and manpower development. Also, findings indicate that the challenges associated with the university include non-access to external fund, inconsistent government policy among others. The study recommends that the government should provide enabling environment to remove the policy threat by giving constitutional recognition to the role of private sector in the establishment and operation of private universities.
