Abstract

Karamanli, vice president of the France-Greece Friendship Group, notes that the modernization of the state, the economy, & social relations is often presented as a sort of burden & inevitability from which the average Greek citizen would seek to escape. Reticence to change would essentially characterize a majority of Greeks. However, despite the weight of traditions, numerous reforms have seen the light of day in recent years, some of which have radically transformed relations between state & society, in particular, the growth of the economy & improvements in public & social services.
