Institution im Wandel. Thesen zur NATO
In: Welt-Trends: das außenpolitische Journal, Heft 68, S. 33-41
Abstract
NATO is 60 years old. What can or should this international organization with about 30 member states provide? This article examines this international institution that is shaped by the interests of its members & discusses its core functions based on those interests. After a brief historical overview, current functions, formal & factual attributions, dynamics, & development problems as well as perspective options are presented. The author concludes that political discourse on NATO resources, its problem solving capacities, & specific deployments are still valid. Particularly in Germany, where after twenty years after the end of the Cold War & the collapse of the Warsaw Pact, a social & parliamentary debate about NATO & its strategic concepts is still outstanding.
